At Princeton Dental, we offer a home bleaching service for our patients. This service includes an initial appointment where we will take an impression or mould of your teeth, (upper and lower) to make a thin mouthguard like tray. This tray is customised to fit your teeth perfectly giving maximum comfort whilst you wear the bleaching tray.

At the second appointment we will issue you with the trays and a bleaching kit that includes:
· The bleaching trays and the gel
· A case to store your bleaching trays
· Sensodyne Toothpaste
· A soft toothbrush
· All instructions necessary for you to bleach at home

The bleaching process takes approximately two weeks depending upon the initial colour of your teeth and the desired results. The trays are lined with bleaching gel and worn for 2-3 hours at a time. You can wear the trays day or night, whichever is most convenient. The longer you wear the trays the faster your teeth will bleach.

The final degree of 'whiteness' of your teeth is under your control. You will note your teeth whitening during the bleaching process and you stop when you are happy with the colour of your teeth. Generally your teeth will stay white for many years, but if you keep the trays you can 'top up' their 'whiteness' by simply re-bleaching. If you run out of bleach gel, you can purchase more gel from our surgery.

Bleaching is safe, the only side effect reported by some patients is a slight sensitivity to cold in their teeth whilst they are bleaching. This sensitivity is controlled with Sensodyne toothpaste (supplied), and disappears when the bleaching is completed.

Please note if you have crowns or discoloured composite fillings in your front teeth, these will not change colour with the bleaching process. Please speak to the dentist and he will advise you if this will be significant.

This tray-based chemical bleaching process is more effective and permanent than 'Laser' bleaching or bleaching toothpastes or products purchased from the chemist or supermarket.
